Digipak Analysis 2
Digipak Analysis 2
This digipak for Ariana Grande's album My Everything is simple yet works effectively. The pose itself makes the artist look quite innocent, despite her midriff and legs being on show. This is enforced with the title of the album being quite feminine and typically 'girly'. It is clear that the album is about love through these elements.
The writing on the front cover is white in order for it to stand out against the background. The artists name is in a small font but is easier for the audience to read than the title of the album, implying that it is more important than the album itself, it creates a brand image for her.
The black and white image on the purple background makes her stand out from the rest of the cover and draws the attention of the audience to her. Especially if we consider male gaze.
The use of herself instead of any type of album artwork is a typical convention of a pop artists' digipak as with other genres, the artist gives them something to follow whereas with pop artists, its mainly just about them and their image. This is reflected through this digipak.
The photograph on the disc follows up from one of the music videos for a single from this album. In the video, she is seen with the projected shadows on her face so it allows the audience to know that this person is the same as the one in the video/single and can expect more music like that from her.
The track list on the back does not feature any artwork. This ties in with the simple cover and image. The black font makes it easier for the audience to read what songs are featured and follow it through on the CD.
This digipak instantly lets the consumer know that Ariana Grande's iconography consists of very feminine features and bright colours.

The digipak as a whole follows a similar colour scheme, minus the black and white photograph of the artist on the front cover.
Digipak Analysis
Digipak Analysis
This digipak for Awolnation's album has a futuristic style and is very different to what you would perhaps normally see on a stereotypical digipak. You can clearly see the idea that they were going for with it. That each panel represents a different place/climate on earth. The top left is snowy, antarctic climate, the bottom left is the desert and you can see the pyramids to portray this. The top right which is the front cover is the middle of the sea with the purple in the sky and the stormy seas. The bottom right is the rainforest and what looks like some sort of pirate anchor so maybe the caribbean - looking like a setting from Pirates of the Caribbean. Where the disc goes there is the moon and stars so that represents space and the galaxy. The colours of the disc are used on the front cover, so that links them together as they are the most important parts of the digipak. By using images like these, it allows a Sci-Fi theme to be used in their music videos.
As far as conventions go, we see a barcode, production label, track list and an insert. These features are, almost, expected in/on a digipak.

Digipak Plan
Digipak Plan
I will be creating a six sided digipak, with the disk in the centre. All three outside panels will be black and white. This is creating synergy between my video, my digipak and then my magazine advert will be predominantly black and white too. I chose typical black and white things for the outside. Such as a zebra on the left and a pair of rolling dice for the back. I also chose the rippling water image because it is aesthetically pleasing and I will be using a similar shot in my music video, so it links with that.
The idea of the inside panels is that the left is man made, the right is natural and the middle is both combined. It is also a juxtaposition against the outside, contrasting the black and white with the colourful images.
For my first outline plan I used stock images similar to what I will use for my final print product.

Album Advert Research
Album Advert Research
Magazine adverts are another form of advertising. The purpose of these adverts are to inform and target the less stereotypical audience, that don't use social medias, and rely on print based media to gain their information. Conventionally, the image from the cover of the album will appear on the magazine add, to maintain the same image throughout. We could see where the album is available; as we see on the Wretch 32 example (right). In addition, if it is a forthcoming album, then the release date will feature, and if it is an album that has already been released, then the release date is irrelevant.

Digipak Research
Digipak
Digipaks are packaging for CDs and/or DVDs, conventionally made from cardboard, with a gloss coating, and will have an internal plastic casing for the disk. Also, some digipaks have inserts, that can contain track lists, specific artist information or quotes, as well as any other additional information. A digipak is a more aesthetically pleasing and eco-friendly alternative to a jewel case.
This alternative CD and DVD packaging became more popular with record companies and artists in the early 2000s.
